New poster for The Paperboy

A new poster has been released for The Paperboy, Lee Daniels' thriller in which Zac Efron finds himself falling for a distinctly cougarish Nicole Kidman.Efron plays the brother of Matthew McConaughey's investigative journalist, with both men working in tandem to prove the innocence of John Cusack's death row inhabitant.Things are complicated however by the presence of Kidman's character (a long-standing correspondent of the accused) and it isn't long before she and Efron find themselves embarking upon an ill-advised affair. The poster doesn't give us much more to go upon beyond that, suffice to say that Efron has clearly been putting a lot of hours in at the gym to get those biceps sufficiently pumped.Adapted from the novel by Pete Dexter, The Paperboy has yet to receive an official release date, but is expected to arrive at some point in 2012. Check out the poster in full, below...

Ghost Protocol Takes Quiet Christmas With $26.5M Mission

First Published: December 26, 2011 12:07 PM EST Credit: Getty Images Caption Paula Patton and actor Tom Cruise attend a photocall ahead of the Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol Press Conference during the 8th Annual Dubai International Film Festival held on the 124th floor of the Burj Khalifa on December 7, 2011LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Tom Cruises latest mission has won a holiday weekend thats shaping up with some silent nights at movie theaters as business continues to lag. Studio estimates Sunday placed Cruises Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol a solid No. 1 with $26.5 million domestically over its first weekend in full release. The movie raised its total to $59 million since it started a week earlier in huge-screen cinemas and expanded nationwide last Wednesday, and distributor Paramount estimated that revenues will reach $72.7 million by Monday. Cruises fourth Mission flick was a bright spot over a Christmas weekend filled with so-so tidings for Hollywood, whose usually busy holiday stretch since Thanksgiving has been a bust. Generally well-reviewed movies from Steven Spielberg (The Adventures of Tintin), David Fincher (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Cameron Crowe (We Bought a Zoo) with casts that include Matt Damon,Scarlett Johansson and Daniel Craig opened with modest to weak results. Despite predictions from studio executives that 2011 could be a record-setter that would finish with a bang, domestic revenues remained stuck at a sluggish pace that has lingered all year. Hollywood should finish the year with $10.1 billion domestically, down 4.5 percent from 2010, according to box-office tracker Hollywood.com. The picture gets worse taking into account higher ticket prices, which mean Hollywood brings in fewer fans for each dollar spent. Actual domestic attendance for 2011 will close out at about 1.27 billion, down 5.3 percent from the previous years and the lowest head count since 1995, when admissions totaled 1.26 billion. Thank God 2011 is almost over, because weve had a real rough run here at the end of the year, said Hollywood.com analyst Paul Dergarabedian. We always count on the holiday season to give us a big boost at the end of the year, and it just didnt happen. These admission numbers this year just tell me that we maybe have to set our sights a little lower in terms of attendance every year. Since peaking at a modern high of 1.6 billion in 2002, domestic movie admissions have been on a general decline since. Studio executives always insist that slow times result from weak films, but on paper, the strong lineup Hollywood presented this year should have had fans lining up in huge numbers. Pretty good films are out there this holiday season, yet blockbuster expectations fizzled, a sign that people might be skipping a trip to the theater in favor of home-viewing, video games or the countless other entertainment options their gadgets now offer. Rising ticket prices, particularly the extra few dollars it costs to see 3-D films, also could be causing a backlash among fans. With Ghost Protocol climbing toward the$100 million mark, its a return to box-office form for Cruise, who had been Hollywoods most-dependable earner for two decades until he turned off fans with odd antics in his personal life six years ago. Ghost Protocol will be Cruises first top-billed $100 million hit since 2006s Mission: Impossible III. He had a supporting role in 2008s $100 million comedy hit Tropic Thunder, which was headlined by Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr. and Jack Black. Even with a No. 1 debut, Ghost Protocol still was a shadow of its predecessors. The first three Mission: Impossible movies ranged from $45 million to $58 million over opening weekend, but those installments opened at the start of the busy summer season. As of Friday, Ghost Protocol also had brought in a healthy $118 million overseas. Downeys Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows fell from No., 1 to No. 2 in its second weekend with $17.8 million. The family sequel Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked dropped from second to third with $13.3 million. Both sequels trail well behind the business their predecessors did. A Game of Shadows, from Warner Bros., lifted its domestic haul to $76.6 million, while 20th Century Foxs Chipwrecked pushed its receipts to $50.3 million. The weekends newcomers failed to light up the box office, too. Fincher and Craigs The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo from Sony was No. 4 with $13 million, Spielbergs The Adventures of Tintin from Paramount was No. 5 with $9.1 million and Crowe, Damon and Johanssons We Bought a Zoo from 20th Century Fox was No. 6 with $7.8 million. Dragon Tattoo raised its total to $21.4 million since opening Tuesday night, while Tintin lifted its take to $17.1 million since debuting Wednesday. European literary exports Dragon Tattoo, adapted from Stieg Larssons Swedish best-seller, and Tintin, based on Belgian artist Herges storybook classics, are finding a lukewarm reception among U.S. crowds. Dragon Tattoo has been a sensation among U.S. readers yet failed to challenge Mission: Impossible and the other established franchises at the top of the box office. Beloved by generations of readers overseas, Tintin launched internationally two months ahead of its U.S. release. But the blockbuster global attention, with nearly $250 million already in the bank from foreign markets, did not translate to crowds in the United States. The calendar made it a tough weekend for Hollywood, with Christmas Eve always a slow night for movie-going falling on Saturday, usually the best day of the week at theaters. Christmas Day typically is a strong one for movies, as fans squeeze in a film between unwrapping presents and sitting down to family dinners. Two big holiday releases Spielbergs World War I epic War Horse and Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullocks Sept. 11 drama Extremely Loud&Incredibly Close opened Christmas Day, but estimates on their revenues will not be available until Monday. Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com. Where available, latest international numbers are also included. Final domestic figures will be released Monday. 1. Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, $26.5 million. 2. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, $17.8 million. 3. Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, $13.3 million ($20.1 million international). 4. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, $13 million. 5. The Adventures of Tintin, $9.1 million. 6. We Bought a Zoo, $7.8 million ($1.1 million international). 7. New Years Eve, $3 million. 8. Arthur Christmas, $2.7 million ($9.7 million international). 9. Hugo, $2.03 million. 10. The Muppets, $2 million ($500,000 international). Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.

Dauman once again acknowledged although the current quarter's ad revenue momentum will probably be drawn lower with the Nickelodeon problem and "some soft qualities generally scatter demand" throughout the final a few days. But he vowed that his firm's cable systems unit margins would grow this quarter. On more upbeat notes, Dauman once again famous such TV hits as Jersey Shoreline which is stars, additionally to film franchise Paranormal Activity. He mentioned the Vital studio, which will next season start praising its a hundred years in operation, expects to to create new Paranormal film every year thinking about the truth that it's developed a Halloween franchise from this that's "very lucrative." Meanwhile, Epix, the premium TV venture of Viacom, MGM and Lionsgate, sees an exclusivity window in the digital distribution deal with Netflix expire in September, interviewer and top UBS banker Aryeh Bourkoff mentioned. 'The Hunger Games' Trailer: 5 Instant Findings As You're Watching

On Monday, the state trailer for Lionsgate's rendition from the first novel in Suzanne Collins' popular Hunger Games trilogy was launched. And, while fans will need to watch for more understanding of it's love triangular, that was largely overlooked within this two-and-a-half minute teaser, there's much to become learned in the clip. our editor recommends'Hunger Games' Trailer Premieres, Discloses the Dark Realm of Panem (Video)'Hunger Games': 8 New Posters In the Approaching Lionsgate Movie (Photos) PHOTOS: The Hunger Games Official Character Posters 1) The film will adhere strictly towards the books. If the first trailer is any indicator, tthere shouldn't be chance of a Hunger Games devotee uprising because of versions between your book and movie. The footage, which runs in chronological order, begin with Katniss and Gale at their lookout point, just like the first book, ongoing onto the Enjoying, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta's (Josh Hutcherson) amount of time in the capitol before it shuts with this first look at the arena. One notable difference appears to become the boosting of Gale (Liam Hemsworth's) presence within the film. Within the books he's only present throughout the start and finish, but knowing in the trailer, the crowd will see what he's dealing with while Katniss is incorporated in the area, something visitors didn't reach experience of the novel. PHOTOS: 'Hunger Games' Start Looking: Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson 2) District 12 looks less gritty of computer's written counterpart. Fans got their first sights from the allegedly most-bare-bones and neglected of Panem's districts, and also the depiction appeared to possess small Hollywood sheen onto it. Yes, the Enjoying's participants counseled me outfitted in monochromatic clothes and appeared to become standing among boulders, but anything else was a tad too pretty for any coal-mining town. The books describe everything as getting an excellent layer of dust regarding this, however the trailer demonstrated a brightness within the forest (which looked positively lush), the structures and also the dresses of District 12's occupants. Most likely the darkness didn't translate well on film. STORY: 'The Hunger Games' Director Gary Ross Promises 'Hugely Epic' Items to Come 3) Could be that the forest or even the arena?A clip opens and shuts with shots of moments within the forest. At first audiences are watching Katniss and Gale within their real-existence sanctuary, the forest outdoors of District 12's non-functional electric fence. In the finish, a clip shows the film's heroine within the allegedly guy-made forest from the Hunger Games arena. But, the scenery sure does look a great deal alike. The film was shot in New York, but, producers might have used just a little a lot of area's natural aesthetic to create the arena credible like a Capitol creation. STORY: Jennifer Lawrence: 'Hunger Games Isn't Twilight' 4) The key males possess a lengthy approach to take to achieve Twilight-men degree of fan obsession. You will find Twi-hards and Twi-moms ... will Hunger-hounds and Hungry-moms be next? It's tough to tell. Besides the initial uproar over Taylor Lautner and Rachelle Lefervre's castings as A Vampire Named Edward and Edwards Friend Jacob within the Twilight franchise, the key males have inspired screaming hysterics since prior to the very first film's premiere. Both Hutcherson (Peeta) and Hemsworth (Gale) have been in existence prior to their Hunger Games castings. Due to the absence of obscurity, it's unlikely that either will all of a sudden incite riotous behavior. Fans appear to become deeply in love with the storyline a lot more than the gamers, that was reflected within this first trailer. Neither leading guy's hunk-factor was depended upon too heavily. STORY: 'Hunger Games' Trailer: Exactly what the Film Buffs Say 5) Did Jennifer Lawrence capture Katniss' essence?Fans have experienced Lawrence outfitted because the book's heroine in photos, and formerly-launched videos that demonstrated her running, but this is actually the very first time Hunger Games enthusiasts often hear the actress truly embody the heroine. I had been struck with how good given Katniss seems to become. It appears the movie version from the story is concentrating on it's leading lady's strength instead of her frailty. Still together, still crazy

Alums in the NY Comedy Festival, now entering its eighth year, include Came Carey, Susie Essman, Denis Leary, Margaret Cho and Louis C.K.Louis Faranda, Caroline Hirsch and Andrew Fox prepare another laff confab. Since the NY Comedy Festival makes its eighth year this month, the large event orchestrated by Caroline Hirsch, Andrew Fox and Louis Faranda in the Caroline's on Broadway comedy club seems just like a highly-oiled machine, using more than 50 shows featuring the country's top comics happening in Manhattan and beyond. But getting here wasn't as basic. Comedy never is straightforward. "It absolutely was very difficult once we started, certainly. It absolutely was crazy at first,Inch recalls Faranda, who's the talent producer for your fest together with the club. "The initial two, three years were crazy, because there exists a famous club, but i wasn't festival entrepreneurs. I was not theater entrepreneurs. Only one factor that Caroline familiar with let me know constantly was that individuals could take action a lot better than anybody, because we live comedy, we live it and breathe it each day within our lives." The idea for your fest coalesced in 2003 when Hirsch and company celebrated 2 decades of Caroline's getting a sizable show at Carnegie Hall. "It absolutely was this kind of grand event, people had a good time,In . the comedy impresario recalls. "Everybody was like, 'Oh my God, you have to do this more often!A So that's the actual way it started. It absolutely was furthermore wherein i'm able to use people who had graduated that the gym has and gone to the concert circuit which i possibly could be engaged.InchSo by utilizing her wife, lawyer and business connect, Andrew Fox, plus Faranda, Hirsch hopped towards the festival biz. "The initial year we incorporated of a 100 different comics within 20 shows with the city," she recalls. With Comedy Central along for your ride immediately, it absolutely was a good beginning. However things got rocky. Really, really rocky."Following a initial few years, the three people, Caroline, myself, and Andrew Fox were fighting so bad, because it am crazy trying to really make it work," confesses Faranda, that's been the talent booker at Caroline's in the last 16 years. "Caroline was ready to throw me out, and Andrew which i weren't speaking, it absolutely was just nutty. It absolutely was an amount inside the festival, because most of us finally made a decision that people want to see us just fail and then leave behind the whole factor. Which i was unlikely to allow that happen." The trio fought using the hard occasions, with what Faranda calls their collective "deep associations" with plenty of world's top comics. "It's become to the level where the industry sees us as great producers. We've won over their depend upon these eight years," according to him. It's clearly aided to own Comedy Central inside their corner forever that part of the puzzle of putting together a effective comedy festival really came easily. Mitch Fried, senior V . p . in the network's live entertainment, states, "I've known Caroline and Andrew Fox a really very long time, when Andrew approached me initially in regards to the festival, being it's inside our backyard, we seriously considered involved. "Caroline is probably the leading people on the market if the involves knowing comedy as well as the nuances from this, and becoming a comprehension in the superiority of talent," Fried continues. "She's a substantial eye, to find out that up-and-comer which has that potential. Which is one thing which Comedy Central is honored on too. We grow them in route, and therefore does Caroline. Therefore it might be a genuine natural fit between her approach and our approach to comedy generally.InchMarketing the NY Comedy Festival with "somewhat exposure round the network" in the beginning has morphed in to a bigger presence, both via TV as well as the Internet. "We now have grown it a good deal as time have went by,Inch Fried states. "We now have extended that which you do pretty considerably. A year ago we introduced a distinctive show referred to as 'Comics to check out,A that's really youthful comics who had did not have exposure on television before, that individuals chose along with Caroline's. We're streaming that relate on our website this year. And that we will also be shooting the J.B. Smoove show through the festival to air later on the network, too."Plus, Fried was instrumental inside the finest modifications within the 2010 festival."I've had plenty of heart-to-heart conversations with Caroline and Andrew about growing the festival out, which causes it to be bigger and bigger," states the Comedy Central professional. "We really preferred to learn to ensure it is more inclusive and then sell more great comedy. It is not nearly people in Manhattan, or NY City going to the shows, it's the NY tristate area. Individuals who live in Connecticut and Nj and New You are able to will probably drive in or proceed and take train straight into start to see the shows, filter systems go towards the outer boroughs, too?"They are literally taking their show on the road this year, going beyond such classic Manhattan venues as Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Radio City, Beacon Theater, Town Hall as well as the Tribeca Center for Undertaking Arts they've used over time, and vulnerable to more recent and much more effective places."We always discussed going to the Brooklyn Academy of Music, which year it absolutely was available, which we'd the very best person to make it happen there, that's Sarah Silverman, so that it made sense. And that we are delivering Louis C.K. to Staten Island, so that's very useful,Inch Hirsch states. "This really is together with what we should have created in NY with New you are able to city & Co. (the marketing arm in the city). A couple of days in the festival is called Comedy Week, which is part of getting comedy for the whole city. We have got a bit of small shows in Queens, too, and J.B. Smoove are available in Williamsburg."Adding venues and "quadrupling the quantity of comics this year,In . according to Faranda, is clearly ideal for business. "We now have gone from selling 20,000 tickets early onto selling 50,000 tickets!" Hirsch announces. Range from the "over $ten millionInch the annual Fully fully stand up for Heroes benefit kickoff event (this year featuring Jon Stewart, Ough Gervais and Bruce Springsteen) features in, and there's little doubt the shaky start is extended behind Caroline and company."We'll put this festival on until I am unable to take action any longer,Inch she vows. UPDATED: Brett Ratner Resigns As Producer Of 2012 Oscars Following Homophobic Slur

First Published: November 8, 2011 8:29 PM EST Credit: Getty Images LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Caption Brett Ratner attends the AFI FEST 2011 Presented By Audi - J. Edgar Opening Night Gala at Graumans Chinese Theatre, Los Angeles, on November 3, 2011Brett Ratner has resigned as producer of the Oscars, Access Hollywood has confirmed. This morning, Brett Ratner submitted his resignation as a producer of the 84th annual Academy Awards to Academy President Tom Sherak, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said in a statement on Tuesday evening. Ratner then issued an open letter to the entertainment industry in which he explained his decision. The news comes just days after Ratner used a homophobic slur during a Q&A session at the Los Angeles ArcLight Cinema, following a screening of his latest film, Tower Heist. When asked about his rehearsal process, he said, Rehearsal is for fa*s. It was a dumb way of expressing myself, Ratner later said in a statement, by way of apology. Everyone who knows me knows that I dont have a prejudiced bone in my body. In addition to his homophobic remark, Ratner also recently slammed Olivia Munn, and suggested he had slept with the starlet, when he appeared on her former program, G4s Attack of the Show. He later apologized for his G4 remarks during a visit to The Howard Stern Show. When Ratner resigned from the Oscars on Tuesday morning, he also penned an open letter to the Hollywood community. In Ratners open letter, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, the director admitted he has been criticized in the days since he uttered the gay slur. As difficult as the last few days have been for me, they cannot compare to the experience of any young man or woman who has been the target of offensive slurs or derogatory comments. And they pale in comparison to what any gay, lesbian, or transgender individual must deal with as they confront the many inequalities that continue to plague our world, he wrote in his letter. So many artists and craftspeople in our business are members of the LGBT community, and it pains me deeply that I may have hurt them. I should have known this all along, but at least I know it now: words do matter, his letter continued. Having love in your heart doesnt count for much if what comes out of your mouth is ugly and bigoted. Ratner added that he plans to put work in on the fight against bigotry, and noted he has already reached out to the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). Please know that I will be taking real action over the coming weeks and months in an effort to do everything I can both professionally and personally to help stamp out the kind of thoughtless bigotry Ive so foolishly perpetuated, he wrote. Academy President Sherak said Ratners decision to resign was the right one. He did the right thing for the Academy and for himself, Sherak said in a statement. Words have meaning, and they have consequences. Brett is a good person, but his comments were unacceptable. We all hope this will be an opportunity to raise awareness about the harm that is caused by reckless and insensitive remarks, regardless of the intent. Copyright 2011 by NBC Universal, Inc. Chuck D Is Latest to Sue Over Digital Download Royalties (Exclusive)

Getty ImagesChuck D Universal Music Group is now facing a fresh lawsuit that alleges the underpaying of royalties on digital downloads. Today, Chuck D of Public Enemy stepped up to bring his own class action against the major record label. The lawsuit was filed in San Francisco federal court and allegesthat UMG routinely miscalculates the royalties owed to artists for digital downloads, such as MP3s and ringtones, by treating them as "sales" of physical records rather than "licenses." Chuck D's complaint follows on the heels of a federal judge's decision on Tuesday to move forward on a similar consolidated class action brought by Rob Zombie and the estate of Rick James. Here is our report from this morning, which explains why the lawsuit is a huge deal in the record business. In announcing the lawsuit, Chuck D's lawyers at Hausfeld LLP says that UMG has underpaid hundreds of millions of dollars in royalties and pointed to a decision in 2010 by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals that offers some precedent that digital downloads should be treated as "licenses." "Chuck D has been 'fighting the power' for over two decades and will continue to do so through this suit in order to help all musicians, including many legacy artists who are living on fixed incomes," saidJames Pizzirusso, a partner at Hausfeld LLP involved in the case. "This complaint suffers from serious flaws and weaknesses, not the least of which is that the claims asserted are not appropriate for class treatment," a UMG spokesperson tells THR. "We will vigorously defend against it." E-mail: eriqgardner@yahoo.com Twitter: @eriqgardner

With 'Stronger,' Clarkson Finally at Ease

LOS ANGELES (AP) It may have taken some time, but Kelly Clarkson seems to finally be releasing an album without any drama on the side."Everything is good, everything is happy," she said, laughing brightly during a recent interview to promote "Stronger," released this week. It's a different scenario than her last two albums: She went through public disputes with legendary executive and mogul Clive Davis over her third album and with OneRepublic singer-songwriter Ryan Tedder after her last album was released. They were typical of the bold stances she's taken that proved her to be more than the passive, malleable product of a hit TV competition, establishing her as an artist instead of just a voice."I've been a fighter since I started walking," she said, adding casually and genuinely a line that could be lifted from one of her inspirational songs: "We get one life. You want to make sure that you're living it how you want to live it."Since Clarkson became the first "American Idol" a decade ago, she's established herself as one of pop's most formidable, and successful singers. She's sold over 20 million albums worldwide and landed seven singles in the Billboard Hot 100 top 10, including "Breakaway," ''My Life Would Suck Without You," "Miss Independent," and perhaps her biggest hit, "Since U Been Gone."Clarkson has maintained creative control of her music and career since her "Idol" days, and has written on all of her albums. But her determination to chart her own course has not come without a few battles. In 2007, Davis became concerned over the less commercial sound of Clarkson's third album, "My December," which Clarkson revealed publicly after rumors of a rift; Clarkson later mended fences and called the tension overblown. Then in 2009, Clarkson called out Tedder for musical similarities between "Already Gone," which he wrote for Clarkson, and Beyonce's "Halo," which he also wrote.Clarkson calls her new collection of 13 songs "the easiest record that I've made with my label." But she makes clear that's because the suits bent to her will not the other way around."I think people project on you like the formula that has worked in the past. And then they get to know you," she said. "(Now) they know me better as an artist, they know me better as a person. They know what I'm going to do and what I don't like, and it just really works."Sonically, "Stronger" doesn't tinker much with the formula that has helped Clarkson become the top-selling "Idol" artist ever, blending clean pop-guitar riffs with contemporary dance synths. But there is an undertone of loneliness and sadness coursing throughout, including some downbeat lyrics co-written by Clarkson herself."Hello, is anybody listening? Won't somebody show me that I'm not alone," she sings on "Hello.""If you look at my whole catalogue, there are far more sadder songs than happy," the Texan acknowledges in her Southern drawl. "But that's only because writing is a form of therapy. So obviously the things that you're getting out are the things that you've been going through and struggling with. You want to keep all the happy inside. If I'm going through a hard time, I write it out."In person, Clarkson is bubbly and quick to laugh, sharing that in her time off, she picked up the violin and started learning Italian with Rosetta Stone. "I'm horrible at it so far," she laments lightly. But she never comes close to revealing the subject of "Stronger's" multiple scornful breakup and kiss-off songs. "You don't know a thing about me," she sings on the first single, "Mr. Know It All." And it's true that the 29-year-old retains an enigmatic air, despite her down-to-Earth image.Toby Gad, who co-wrote and produced two songs on "Stronger," had planned on a 10-minute meeting with Clarkson when the two first met, but ended up at a two-hour dinner."She's a very strong survivor, and very organic and very real," he said. "You can connect with her on a very human level."Still, after the dinner and several days of revising lyrics alongside the pop star, he said he doesn't remember if she ever mentioned her own relationships to him. While Clarkson seems to sing almost exclusively about the ups and downs of love, her songs are often deceptively universal. Clarkson says "Mr. Know It All" could apply to her own record label or to the media, and Gad's "The War Is Over" functions as a coda to a romance or to an actual war."That's the underlying theme for her, to vent emotions that we all feel in our relationships," Gad said. And Clarkson will continue to vent as she sees fit."I'm always vocal," she said. "People ask me and I tell them. If I have a problem, I say it. I'm never malicious about it, I just say what happened. And I think a lot of people don't do that. So I think it maybe catches people off guard. But I don't know any other way to be but honest musically or personally. So I guess that just comes through."Copyright 2011 Associated Press. Leah Remini Signs Talent Deal With ABC

UPDATE: 12:45 PM: The Sports Business Daily is reporting that Fox will pay $450 million-$500 million for rights to the next two World Cups, and Telemundo will pay $600 million. If true, those are massive markups from the last U.S. rights deal in 2005, when ESPN paid $100 million and Univision $325 million. PREVIOUS, 9:40 AM: Fox Sports has won the English-language rights to broadcast the 2018 and 2022 soccer World Cups in Russia and Qatar, respectively, and Telemundo has won Spanish-language rights, after bidding was held this week in Zurich. No financial details were disclosed, but an official announcement is expected sometime today or early next week, according to Sports Business Journal; the deal includes rights to the Women’s World Cup in 2015 and 2019. It means current rights-holders ESPN and Univision — whose deal for the past two World Cups cost them a combined $425 million — lost out in the auction at FIFA headquarters, a surprising outcome that didn’t seem to be on anybody’s radar. ESPN, whose current deal includes the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, said this morning in a statement: “We made a disciplined bid that would have been both valuable to FIFA and profitable for our company, while continuing to grow our unprecedented coverage of the World Cup and Women’s World Cup events. We were aggressive while remaining prudent from a business perspective.” That language sounds pretty familiar: Fox rolled out similar words when it lost the recent Olympics TV-rights bidding to NBC. Both Fox and ESPN have been prominent networks offering soccer coverage in the U.S., where the sport’s popularity is solid but nowhere near as big as it is in Europe; both share rights to the States’ Major League Soccer games, and both show Fox has its Fox Soccer Channel cable network, which certainly will figure prominently in its World Cup plans.

First Published: October 17, 2011 4:55 PM EDT Credit: Getty Images LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Caption Halle Berry attends the 2011 FiFi Awards at The Tent at Lincoln Center in NY City on May 25, 2011A judge ruled Monday that a man charged with stalking Halle Berry should stand trial on two charges filed after he was repeatedly seen on the actress property earlier this year. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Melissa Widdifield issued her ruling after hearing from two witnesses called during a preliminary hearing to show some of evidence against Richard A. Franco, who has pleaded not guilty to burglary and stalking charges. He was charged after police arrested him outside Berrys home in July after he was seen on the property three times in three days. Los Angeles police Detective John Gregozek testified that when Franco was caught, he was carrying a key to Berrys guesthouse, where the Oscar-winning actress has her beauty salon and some of her wardrobe. Gregozek said Franco apparently obtained the key on July 10, when he entered the house for about 20 seconds after Berry left the salon area to go to her kitchen. Franco was standing outside her kitchen door when Berry spotted him and locked the door and called police. Berry did not attend the hearing, but Gregozek told the judge the actress is still afraid of Franco. The following night, after Berry had hired private security, Franco wasseen climbing over the actress gate and coming onto her property. Joseph Vach, a retired California Highway Patrol officer, was working as private security and helped detain Franco. The man was carrying a notebook that included references to Berry and entering her home, Vach testified. Franco, who was dressed in a jail jumpsuit, will remain jailed on $150,000 bail, Widdifield ruled. He returns to court on Oct. 31 for arraignment. Berry obtained a civil restraining order against Franco after his arrest. This person has invaded and trampled upon the most fundamental sense of security I have, and I am extremely frightened of him and what he might do to me or those I love, she wrote in her July petition. For that second time, the American League Championship Series has been affected by rain, causing damage to Fox’s primetime schedule. Cheers & Jeers: Sons of Anarchy Doesn't Hassle the Hoff

David Hasselhoff Cheers to Sons of Anarchy for an inspired bit of stunt casting. Want more Cheers & Jeers? Subscribe to TV Guide Magazine now! When it was announced that David Hasselhoff would guest star in Season 4 of FX's motorcycle-gang drama, I'll admit I groaned. Would this be another distractingly cheesy joke like Stephen King's cameo last season? Imagine my surprise when the Baywatch veteran threw himself with gusto into the role of Dondo, a famously well-endowed porn star-turned-producer. He devoured the part even more ferociously than a certain cheeseburger we all remember. Here's hoping we haven't seen the last of Dondo. The Hoff wasn't the episode's only welcome guest. Tom Arnold reprised his juicy role as adult-film-industry sleazeball Georgie Caruso, and notoriously cranky SOA creator (and Mickey Rourke lookalike) Kurt Sutter returned as one-eyed inmate Otto to play poignant scenes opposite his real-life wife, Katey Sagal, as well as the always-great Mark Boone Junior. No doubt about it: This season, these bikers are on a roll. What did you think of last night's SOA? Subscribe to TV Guide Magazine now!

OSCAR: Figures Tuning Up For Big Animation Race And Frequently Will Spielberg Increase The Risk For Cut?

With today’s announcement that GKIDS (beneath the banner of Luma Films) will release Oscar-winning filmmaker Fernando Trueba’s (Belle Epoque from 1992) animated musicalChico and Rita for just about any being qualified run just before the conclusion of year, the animated feature race just heated. By my count this list of potential films is becoming 15, one missing triggering five nominees inside the category and definitely enough to produce way of 4 nominees (8-12 means 2-3 noms, 13-15 means a max of 4, and 16 means an entire house of 5). Final entry forms need to be into the Academy by November 1, after which it will probably be vetted with the Acad’s Short Films and also have Animation branch to determine when they fully qualify. If a year ago is any suggestion, the Academy will launched all of the qualified animated features by the middle of November. Clearly almost always there is debate in what istrue animation, particularly while using Motion Capture process including real performances by stars after which it essentially animates the moments. This year you will discover three potential nominees designed to use the Mo Cap process including Robert Zemeckis’ box office blast, Mars Needs Moms George Burns’s follow-up to his Oscar winning Happy Foot and several particularly Steven Spielberg’s extended anticipated entry into the animation world, The Adventures of Tintin (they also produced with Healing For Healing For Peter Jackson and Kathleen Kennedy). If you have been artists who've requested the chastity in the Mo Cap process since it relates for their talent and although such Mo Cap films as Zemeckis’ The Polar Express, Beowulf together with a Christmas Carol are actually qualified in past years, none werenominated. Really no film using Mo Cap either fully or partially helps make the ultimate list since 2006 when both Monster House and Happy Foot were competitors, while using latter really winning. Apparently keymembersin the Acad’s animationbranch met Tuesday evening for just about any meeting that made it four several hours. Among subjects mentioned later on up was the issue of motion Capture (also called Performance Capture) andan insider with understanding in the situationtold Deadline they “apparently” havedecided to deliver instructions for the filmmakers of Mars Needs Moms, Happy Foot 2 and Tintin asking them what their ‘intent’ reaches while using the Mo Cap process before identifying whether people films really qualify. Inside their formal rules the Academy states that “Motion Capture alone is not an animation technique” that the movies ought to be carried out frame by frame animation. Based onthe Academy’s past actions odds are that three would qualify and itwould appear unlikely the Academywould undertake Oscar individuals who win Zemeckis, Burns and Spielberg relating to this problem especiallysince their previousstated intentions are actually that they are workingfully inside the animated format. Even outdoors in the Mo Cap area filmmakers known mainly for live action films like people three are actually dabbling inother kinds of featureanimation including Trueba and Rango’s Gore Verbinski this year. If some artists obtain doubts people behind ‘Tintin’ certainly don't. Vital sources who've seen Spielberg’s film swear it qualifies in every single way, that despite usage of Mo Cap they tellmeit is strictly frame by frame if this involves its animation. One person concentrating on the film mentioned “ten in the past artists were worrying the CGI process wasn't pure animation. In my opinion after they observe this kind is marketing, particularly with ‘Tintin’ they will start to accept it more readily”. Ken Kamins who works carefully with Jackson which is an expert Producer round the film confirms, e-mailed Deadline: “Steven has always believed that Tintin is certainly an animated film. The Academy doesn’t for example, produce a distinction between hands attracted versus digital animation. ‘Tintins’ approach, using a combination of performance capture and digital animation is simply another position in the talent. Our current animated films use voice stars whose performances are directed. ‘Tintin’ is using stars that are delivering performance through voice, motion plus an capacity for connecting to one another, but everything you’re searching at within the design and conception is nonetheless , animated, “ according to him adding recent comments from Joe Letteri, among WETA’s entrepreneurs that “It all would depend the way you define animation, but in my opinion the equipment and techniques (of visual effects and animation) are identical. Performance (Motion) Capture is not an analog process it’s still an innovative process.” Another Vital source described the film is created with techniques that “completely animated” which “once everyone sees the film these complaints disappears”. People will start seeing the film soon needs to be fact because, in a really unusual move for just about any Spielberg film, The Adventures of Tintin continues to be folded out worldwide first beginning October 26 in Europe and throughout November before finally punching the u . s . states and Canada on December 21st. Columbia Pictures gets the film overseas while Vital is domestic distrib. Nickolodeon Films and Spielberg’s Amblin’ Entertainment may also be listed in the film’s credits while not Dreamworks so Spielberg will uncover themselves inside the potentially awkward position of competing for Oscar attention against his Dreamworks co-founder and ‘toon magnetJeffrey Katzenberg which has DWA’s Kung Fu Panda 2 as well as the Shrek spinoff Puss In Boots in contention. Really Vital is overloaded with ‘toon game game titles this season as there is also an innovator in Verbinski’s Rango the true homebred Componen product. With Componen’s agreement with Dreamworks Animation apparently going to an finish the studio will most likely make adirect foray into animation itself rather than based on its distribution contracts with others. So supposing they get became a member of andeverything eventually meets the Academy’s qualifications for consideration, the 15 guaranteed candidates right now (getting per month to go to) are Rango, Kung Fu Panda 2, Puss In Boots, Adventures of Tintin (be handled by Componen’s honours crew) Rio and Alvin as well as the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked (both through Fox) Weinstein’s Hoodwinked Too Disney’s Mars Needs Moms and Winnie The Pooh Disney/Pixar’s Cars 2 The brand new the new sony’s The Smurfs and Arthur Christmas (within the highly regarded as as Aardman Animation too for the studio does special 30 minutes sneak peeks in LA, NY and London on Monday) Warner Bros. Happy Foot 2 and GKIDS’ Chico and Rita. Furthermore to people game game titles you will discover oddities just like a couple of Pokemon films introduced for specialweekend theatricalruns in Decemberand Lion Of Judah that might, but likely will not factor into the mix. You will discover numerous worldwide game game titles that may possibly show up but at this time around are this really is this is not on the horizon just before the November 1 deadline. In the last couple of years Disney has furthermore qualified among their Mess Bell straight -to-DVD feature game game titles to have the ability to swell the quantity of records and trigger several five nominees (therefore growing the probability of a nom for realistic competitors). This year I have learned they willNOT bequalifying the nextTink flick, Mess Bell as well as the Mysterious Winter Forest, even though it couldhave been a considerable aspect in acquiring your opportunity of qualified ‘toons for the miracle 16. While using race apparently morewide open this year (Pixar has folded inside the competition the ultimate four years straight), and Cars 2 not the kind of slam dunk potential nominee/champion Disney/Pixar has received formerly, every proper move could count in the race that promises to become real nail-biter.

Ringer's Nestor Carbonell: Bridget "Is My Island"

Nestor Carbonell and Sarah Michelle Gellar Nestor Carbonell went from safeguarding a tropical on Lost to doing exactly the same factor for Sarah Michelle Gellar's runaway twin on Ringer. "She's my island, that's without a doubt," Carbonell informs TVGuide.com of Agent Machado's obsessive have to find Bridget to be able to safeguard her from the vicious killer he's attempting to take lower. Have more scoop on Ringer and Bridget's secret Regrettably for Machado, Bridget has had around the identity of her presumed-dead twin sister Siobhan and she's not going to stop her secret in the near future. Carbonell talks about Machado's motivations, the emotional side of Ringer and whether he'll determine who "Siobhan" is really: Do you consider Agent Machado has any concept that Siobhan is really Bridget?Nestor Carbonell: I do not think he's made the leap, but they know something's amiss. I've got a feeling he isn't not even close to doing that. But she's quite good she is really. There's a few twists approaching within the next couple of episodes in which you think he really has her, and she's just handled to evade everyone. He isn't not even close to kind of cracking that bit of the situation. Exactly why is Bodaway's situation essential to him? It is possible to much deeper connection we'll arrived at learn? Carbonell: I believe there is a strong back story that describes why it is so vital that you me. I've been told that... there is something personal there that's past the professional. Actually I am shooting a scene [now] - we are on Episode 107 - where again, I am trying every position to obtain this person, therefore it is clearly something that's personal for him. At first glance, everyone has a duplicitous character and so i certainly think that there is something fishy there. What lengths is he going to take this analysis? Carbonell: He's basically gone to live in NY. He isn't after that, but he's moved here until he cracks the situation or until he finds Bridget. We will have him return to Wyoming sooner or later, but he's virtually around NY. 5 things to anticipate from Ringer -- besides Sarah Michelle Gellar Exactly what does he think he is able to get from "Siobhan," really? Carbonell: Siobhan, at this time, may be the last individual who allegedly saw Bridget or spoke to Bridget. So this is the best lead they have at this time. You'll discover he will get a large clue, something which he's been searching for a bit of evidence that actually implicates Siobhan in some manner. He'll eventually develop something which he's been searching for and that he thinks they have her, and we'll find out if he is doing. Might "Siobhan" be utilising him in exchange? Carbonell: Absolutely. I truly seem like she's very wise. She understands how to deal with what the law states she's tried it before and she's now hiding in plain sight in her own sister's identity. She's using everything she will to patch together her very own sister's existence and again, regarding me, she absolutely uses me to discover details about Bodaway or Malcolm [Mike Colter]. How's she likely to always keep this secret? Carbonell: As each episode progresses you'll notice that tales decelerate substantially and you will see her kind of travel through her new identity. The authors really sustained the storyline to the stage where we are like, "Not again. We are purchasing it. We are along with you. We are with Bridget around the ride." We'll see where it requires us. But to date, I do not believe it has been extended thin whatsoever. Fall Preview: Get scoop in your favorite coming back shows Where's the growing season heading? Carbonell: Really, in the centre from it is Bridget's dynamic with Andrew [Ioan Gruffudd], which is among the most fascinating things and also the most compelling things. Is she, strangely enough, likely to save this marriage? Like a viewer, you are most likely rooting on her to achieve that within an odd way. That becomes possibly among the bigger emotional components. Her relationship with Juliet [Zoey Duetch] is essential. Malcolm can come in to the mix too he's a classic real love of hers. It simply gets to be more personal and emotional. So how exactly does Machado's devotion to Bridget and also the Bodaway situation rival Alpert's devotion towards the island? Carbonell: She's my island, that's without a doubt. I'm chained to that particular island I'm chained to Bridget. As the goal is really to place Bodaway in jail, she is paramount to that particular goal. Ringer airs Tuesdays 9/8c around the CW.

Getting a mighty roar, Disney's 17-years of age The Lion King mentioned the weekend box office crown, easily conquering three new wide releases on the way. The brand new the new sony/Scream Gem's remake Hay Dogs, directed by Fly fishing rod Lurie, settled for just about any fifth place showing getting a $5 million opening, because the Weinstein Co.'s femme-centric comedy I am Unsure How She'll It, with Nicole Kidman, was sixth with $4.5 million. PHOTOS: 'Drive' Star Ryan Gosling's 11 Most Memorable Roles Since the weekend began, Disney had modest anticipation for King. The re-release, designed to promote a completely new Packages edition in the film striking stores March. 4, was prone to collect about $12-13 million. But buoyed by strong want-to-see from family audiences, without any immediate competition off their kid-friendly game game titles, the film, directed by Roger Allers and Make the most of Minkoff, once again taken the imagination of movie goers since it needed over 2,330 theaters with a combination of 3d and 2D screens. King already ranked since the top-grossing, hands-attracted animated film ever. In the earlier incarnations, it had made more then $328.5 million in your area, and $788.2 million worldwide, including greater than $hundreds of an incredible number of in the 3d re-release in Latin America. "Certainly our anticipation were exceeded," saidDave Hollis, Disney's evp, theatrical distribution. "You've revisit the circle of existence idea. Teens who first seen it 20 years ago are really parents and introduced their kids. Parents who first seen it if the first showed up in this area are really grandmother and grand daddy and introduced their grandchildren. It absolutely was an chance to look for the film with techniques they hadn't seen it before. Plus it's some a perfect storm." Disney had expected a sizable family play, as well as 74 percent in the audience were families. Though 18 percent of the business coming initially from from couples, the studio also reported strong business at evening tests. Youngsters age two to 11 composed 34 percent in the audience, and girls outnumbered males by 55 to 45 percent. Coming the wake of several movies where moviegoers averted within the 3d option, King remedied that trend. Because the studio didn't have a very break-lower on the quantity of 3d versus 2D screens that the film ultimately carried out, it did think that 92 percent in the toon's business came from from 3d ticket sales. The studio's promotion had stressed seeing the film in 3d -- theaters even provided kid-sized "Simba" glasses -- which push certainly paid out off. While King happen to be scheduled to see theaters for 2 primary days to produce its Packages launch, the interesting big issue is if this may now stay in theaters even longer.
